Book squee

What with distractions *eyes lj meaningfully* I don't read nearly enough books these days. However, some authors make me find the time...therefore, right now I'm reading Gwyneth Jones's Rainbow Bridge.
This is the fifth book in the so called Bold As Love-sequence (started by a book of the same name). I actually just realized I've accidentally skipped the fourth book, which is rather annoying, but I might still end up reading it later anyway. Mayybe >_>;
I originally picked up Castles Made of Sand half by mistake, looking for books by another fantasy writer called Jones (Diana Wynne Jones, precisely). :P
A very fortunate mistake, that, even if it was actually the second book of the series. Which explained why the beginning was a bit confusing on the first read...
So, what are these books about, do I hear you ask?
In short, they're about English rock musicians in a dystopic near future. Usually just when things are looking up, another catastrophy will arrive to wreck things, and it might all get rather depressing fast if the main characters weren't somehow nearly eternally hopeful, despite it all. There are some fantasy and scifi elements, all kept at a low, stylish level. And lovely, gritty, unconventional romance of the kind I've usually only encountered in best fanfiction, which I'm a total sucker for.
I've tried reading older books by the same author, but unfortunately they were too...scifi, in a cold, futuristic and depressing way.
