Slow day

I was going to walk to town center for groceries and general looking around shops, but it was raining a lot until it was too late to go, so nopes. Feeling generally tired and icky (skin's acting up etc), suspect hormonal cycle, in addition to having indulged with snacks... and haven't had anything to eat but (kind of icky) noodles in a couple of days now either. Looking forward to getting something else when I actually can do a bit of shopping. Maybe I could splurge and get some chicken, even... and def. yoghurt so I can have lots of smoothies again. Just never getting Milbona's strawberry yoghurt again, that was terrible and not even that cheap.

My favorite is one with strawberry yoghurt, banana, pineapple juice and a couple of leaves of fresh basil... mmm. Ugh why can't I have one now :''3

Should probably try to write fic. If I feel better after dinner (scones, with honey and butter on them, jsyk), perhaps. Considering starting a new cracky kidfic, because I have no shame. And the main characters WILL be fluffy, or else. Stupid timelords... *muttermutter* >_>-->

Oh, and I finally finished reading Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy.

Things that were kind of cool: Marguerite is actually the main character. I mean, seriously, we don't really see Percy at all except from her perspective, unlike in... pretty much all the adaptations I've seen where he's obviously the main and the one followed by the narrative. The 40s film probably comes closest, though I should see it again...

gluecookie was right when she said Percy and Marguerite have ALL the UST. Srsly Percy literally breaks down and kisses her footsteps after acting all uncaring in front of her I don't even. They're so cute :'D

After reading this description:

"Physically, Sir Percy Blakeney was undeniably handsome- always excepting the lazy, bored look which was habitual to him. He was always irreproachably dressed, and wore the exaggerated "Incroyable" fashions, which had just crept across from Paris to England, with the perfect good taste innate in an English gentleman. On this special afternoon in September, in spite of the long journey by coach, in spite of the rain and mud, his coat set irreproachably across his fine shoulders, his hands looked almost femininely white, as they emerged through billowy frills of finest Mechlin lace: the extravagantly short waisted satin coat, wide-lapelled waistcoat, and tight-fitting striped breeches, set of his massive figure to perfection, and in repose one might have admired so fine a specimen of English manhood, until the foppish ways, the affected movements, the perpetual inane laugh, brought one's admiration of Sir Percy Blakeney to an abrupt halt.

He had lolled into the old-fashioned inn parlour, shaking the wet off his fine overcoat; then putting up a gold-rimmed eye glass to his lazy blue eye, he surveyed the the company, upon which an embarrassed silence had suddenly fallen."

Besides the looong sentences and clothing porn... can we all just mourn the fact young Colin Baker never played this character? Because it would have been perfect and fabulous. If I ever do book fanart I'll draw him like that.

Things that were less cool: The portrayal of... anyone who isn't English aristocracy kind of shows this was written by a noblewoman in early 1900s. According to the foreword her family lost their fortune in their native Hungary because her father wanted to modernize his farm by bringing in harvesting machinery and the peasants went all "NO THAT IS THE WORK OF THE DEVIL LET'S JUST BURN EVERYTHING", so, uh. I kind of wonder if there was something else behind that too, but might explain why Orczy wasn't so hot on revolutionaries... still, her writing is pretty conservative.

There's also near constant reminders that Marguerite is a frail, emotional woman (and this is used to explain various things she does), even if she is the "cleverest (and also most beautiful) woman in Europe" which we also need to be reminded of all the time because it's so speshul for a woman to have any brains, I guess. >_>

Also decided to watch some TOS Star Trek and of course managed to pick an episode that made me raeg. Who Mourns for Adonais and the rant on tumblr.

Remember kids: guys floating in space telling you how you should feel are invariably douchebags. (context: he'd just said Spock couldn't come play because Apollo didn't like his face)
