Art, the childhood edition
Jun. 22nd, 2013 01:02 pmNo idea if this is of any interest to anyone but me, but I think I'll post some old drawings now, from approximately when I was about 6-10-years old.
Not entirely sure, but judging by lack of legible text I'm guessing I was about 5-6 years old? I think this was back when I refused to draw noses because they were too hard. Also my favourite subjectswere are pretty girly, but no regrets. =3=

I have no idea why I've drawn several people with horse heads... horse princesses??? Also birds with clothes because why not, I guess.

And when I said there's no text I mean I seemed to labour to write my own name and had some trouble... that or trying to create an anagram like voldemort.

Also that bird is the best. Rock that apron bird-person!

Again not sure what I was thinking, but if I ever needed illustration for how beauty standards in media affect young girls I'd know where to look for illustration I guess. :P
I used to really like the classes where we got to draw a lot in first and second grades, which was most of them. Note that I still had trouble putting letters the right way around at... second to third grade. Apparently when I was learning to read I also sometimes did it upside down, though I have no recollection of whether I was actually reading or just pretending to.
I kind of find the religion ones especially interesting, not because I'm that religious, but because they're also common motifs in western art history...
Also this is god creating zebra. (he's saying: "this is a zebra" though it's supposed to be seepra in Finnish, and the s is inverted), done in class 1A.

And a bunch of other animals presumably not mentioned in the bible either.

That squid and shark are having a party, while the bird isn't impressed. "Yeah I was created before it was cool."

Then shit happens. Also the snake has some fabulous eyelashes jsyk.

Talking about shit happening...

In class 2 we went through further stories from the old testament.
I was something of an Egyptology nerd as a kid, can you tell? I think that's Josef and the pharaoh.
Also from that story:

Moses being found by the princess and her ladies.

alas I was better at clothes than architecture... presumably where I think Moses grew up?

One of the seven plagues. Also known as: Lappland in summer.

GDI u guys...

Also some RRLY classy typography. Only one letter got inverted...

Extra: Some of my sisters' drawings from that same class. They even had the same teacher.
This how one of them chose to depict Moses and Aaron trying to convince the pharaoh... x3

On the other hand this version of Moses' trip in the river is way more artistic than mine:

(judging by the accurateness of the lion this is probably E's) This is supposed to be Mark according to the text but... wasn't it Daniel who was imprisoned with a lion? idek. Anyway, it looks like he's about to perform some kind of unpleasant exam on that poor lion.

Lastly, back to mine, a woman freaking out over an unimpressed (and very small) wolf. And lots of inverted letters.

and one really cute one that was an illustration for a story about a hedgehog and an alligator.

Also, some from biology notebook in 3rd class.

Facts about the hedgehog, mainly what it eats, common threats and how it survives over winter.

a family portrait:

Lastly, this is either from around the time of the last or maybe when I was 10-11? From a notebook, which contained among other things me trying to invent my own code alphabets, fake fancy dress ads and an illustrated explanation on the biology of fairies.
A wedding dress on sale! The veil has been lowered from 20 to 10 marks.

Also a spider costume.

And now to fairies. First, their alphabet and a start page. Title is something like "Birth and Development of Fairies" although I guess "Life Cycle" would be more accurate...

This page shows how different types of fairies are born. The underground fairies are born in bubbles in a cave (a bit like frogs, I guess x3), the last picture showing a fully grown (young) fairy, whereas flower fairies are born in flowers. (and then rather embarrassingly I've made a sort of racist note about how one of them is "uncommonly" dark...*headpalm*)

Aaanyway this shows the life cycle of a flower fairy, which follows that of the flower. After that, there are two size comparisons with a human (half) fairy, an underground fairy and a flower fairy, and the other with a human included, as well as a "peek into the underground world of the underground fairies". The sign points into a birth cave, the holes are "safety routes to other caves" and the arrow points further into the land of the fairies...

"Welcome!"

Lastly, some forest fairies: "Different trees have all their own fairies, here are some"

(a male fir fairy and a female pine fairy)
a female birchfairy.
