Saw The Hobbit today with my sister
Also bought new yarn, in red-orange and burgundy. And double ended crotchet hooks. So I can try Afghan/Tunisian crotchet styles properly. *nod*
Also, went to see the movie in Maxim's hall 2, which is a reconstruction of their original 1909 viewing hall. Velvet curtains and antique Greek themed reliefs on gold walls and everything fancy. Yay~
First, I have to say some of the action scenes... either grossed out and/or bored me a little. Some of them just felt a bit long. Possible the cast was also a bit hard to feel proper attachment to due to their number (which, not much to be done about that I guess?) and thus cut on the suspense. It felt more like an episode rather than an individual drama arch, so it might be easier to judge the whole work in the distant future when all the films are out.
Even so, somehow it felt a bit... disjointed, plot wise? I'm a bit torn, because the additions from other Tolkien canon are really cool, but at the same time I worry it might be at the expense of the central story? We'll see.
That said, overall I was thrilled to see the movie and there were a lot of things I liked too. The setting with all the details were as gorgeous as in the LOTR movies, and the Dwarf character designs were lovely.
The villains felt more personalized as well, which I guess rather matches the tone of The Hobbit in comparison to LOTR in the books (mind, it's been ages since I read The Hobbit).
However, somehow my favourite thing ended up being the wizards. Radagaaast~ Such a cutie. Even if his personal hygiene terrifies me a little. I mean, actual inhabited bird's nest in hair? That is both adorable and disgusting. And the rabbits! (Sidenote: I now need to watch more Seven serials ASAP because I need more Sylvester McCoy in my life).
Poor Saruman, his colleagues are all dirty hippies who use too much drugs and ignore him, no wonder he turned to online dating... I mean chatting up Dark Lords on palantirs. *headshake*
